LIBRARY & CLASSROOM ADDITION
Pembina Trails School Division
Completed in 2011
The two storey addition to Shaftesbury High School included a new library on the second floor and four classrooms on the main floor. The library was designed to be a warm and inviting space for students to feel comfortable in. It includes a fireplace, reading nooks and a laptop bar. The “classrooms of the future” included flexible furniture and equipment to facilitate a number of teaching and learning styles.
LEED principles were followed in the design including extensive use of glass for daylighting strategies, encouraging bicycle use by providing a bike path and built in bike compound, and using durable building materials such as concrete, brick, and limestone.
